There’s been ‘incredible generosity’ from local schools, kindergartens and early childhood centres in Dunedin who have donated items for Christmas goodwill this year.
Our Dunedin Depot had been asked to help Presbyterian Support Services with their gift drive around several Dunedin schools and preschools. The day started with Presbyterian Support staff and volunteers decorating the buses with a Christmas theme, including dressing as elves and fairies.
Two of our Dunedin drivers, Rex and Malcolm Cowan got into the spirit and say the generosity of the community was impressive. “Rather than presents, it was more practical gifts that were wanting,” said Malcolm.
Generous response
There was no shortage of donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, school stationery and of course ever popular lollies. “It was a pleasure to be involved.”
Both buses had to return to base to offload to make more room for the final stops. Children filed on to the bus via the front door and exited out the back enjoying the decorations and helpers.
Everything donated will be made up in gift packs to help support families who need some extra support.
Thanks to all those involved and to our drivers and our Dunedin depot who volunteered the transport and their time.
